Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd recently won the Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA), Best in CSR, Platinum Award, 2016. The awards, which were presented on the 17th of January 2017, recognises achievements among Malaysian small and medium businesses.
This Best in CSR Award recognises enterprises that practice corporate social responsibility (CSR) including apportioning part of their profits and other resources, to serving the needs of the community.
According to SAINS CEO, Dato Teo, who received the Award on behalf of SAINS, the award affirms SAINS’ commitment to CSR as a core business philosophy. As a GLC, SAINS practices a balanced triangle of business philosophy. The three tenants of this philosophy are to serve the State Government of Sarawak, to develop sustainable corporate sector business beyond the State Civil Service and to support the citizens of Sarawak through CSR activities.
SAINS’ main focus in CSR is the narrowing of the rural urban digital divide in Sarawak to help stimulate socio-economic development and improve the lives of the rural community through a series of ICT based CSR initiatives.
These include, the Rural ICT Guided Home-based Technopreneur programme(RiGHT), a programme designed to allow rural youths to become successful technology entrepreneurs in their rural communities, get better job placement as employees or enhance their eligibility for further education and RiGHT CHANGE (Rural ICT Guided Home-Based Technopreneur Community Healthcare Advancement Nurturing for Growth Ecosystem), a programme that extends the RiGHT programme into the realm of rural healthcare, riding on the back of well-established RiGHT Centres setup by RiGHT graduates.
In addition to these, SAINS is also active in various other CSR initiatives such as E-STEM a free ICT learning programme for students aged 10-18, SEARCH a collaborative research effort with educational institutions, Infocast Kenyalang a free information channel provided to bring useful information to citizens and more.
